What are Baytril Tablets?
Baytril is a prescription antibiotic given to cats and dogs suffering from bacterial infections of the skin, GI tract, urinary tract, or other organs. The active ingredient, enrofloxacin, is a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic effective against a range of infections.
Why do cats and dogs use Baytril?
Veterinarians prescribe Baytril for cats and dogs suffering from bacterial infections of the skin, urinary tract, respiratory system, and other organs. Baytril is effective because its active ingredient, the antibiotic enrofloxacin, interferes with the DNA of bacteria and kills the organism.
What else should I know about Baytril?
Antibiotic effective against a range of bacterial infections. Flavoured tablets are easy to administer.
What problems could my dog or cat have with Baytril?
Enrofloxacin has a bitter taste that is masked by the flavoured tablet. Do not give Enrofloxacin at the same time as other drugs or vitamins that contain calcium, iron, aluminium, or sucralfate. These will reduce the amount of Enrofloxacin that is absorbed. Vomiting, diarrhoea, and nausea are the most common side effects. Do not give more than your veterinarian prescribes to cats. Blindness may result in cats from excess dosing.
How do you use Baytril?
It is best to give Baytril on an empty stomach without food. If your dog or cat vomits when given the Baytril, contact your veterinarian for assistance and follow their directions for use.
