Commonly asked questions about Numelvi:
What are Numelvi Tablets?
Numelvi is a prescription medication for dogs that helps control itching associated with allergic skin conditions, including atopic dermatitis. It contains atinvicitinib, a selective Janus kinase 1 (JAK1) inhibitor that works by blocking specific signalling pathways involved in itching, inflammation and allergic reactions.
Unlike corticosteroids and antihistamines, Numelvi works by selectively targeting JAK1 enzymes involved in the body's inflammatory and allergic responses.
Why do dogs use Numelvi?
Numelvi is used to treat itching associated with allergic dermatitis and the clinical signs of atopic dermatitis in dogs. It helps reduce itching and inflammation associated with allergic skin conditions.
Numelvi is designed for once-daily administration and should be given with food or around feeding time, as directed by your veterinarian.
What problems could my dog have with Numelvi?
The most commonly reported side effects include:
-
Vomiting
-
Diarrhoea
-
Lethargy
-
Reduced appetite
As Numelvi affects immune signalling pathways, your veterinarian should be informed of any existing infections, immune system conditions or other medications your dog is taking.
The safety of Numelvi has not been established in pregnant or lactating dogs or dogs intended for breeding. Safety has also not been investigated in dogs younger than six months of age.
Contact your veterinarian if you notice any unusual changes or side effects after starting treatment.
How do you use Numelvi?
Follow the dosage instructions provided by your veterinarian. Numelvi is administered orally once daily, preferably with food or around feeding time.
The recommended dose in the UK product information is 0.8–1.2mg of atinvicitinib per kilogram of body weight, with tablet strength and quantity determined by the dog's weight.
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water immediately after handling the medication.
Your veterinarian will determine the appropriate treatment duration based on your dog's individual needs and response to treatment.
What is in Numelvi?
The active ingredient in Numelvi is atinvicitinib, a selective Janus kinase 1 (JAK1) inhibitor.
Atinvicitinib works by inhibiting specific cytokines involved in itching, inflammation and allergic reactions. It is designed to target JAK1 more selectively than other JAK inhibitors, helping to manage the symptoms associated with allergic skin conditions.
