Commonly asked questions about Vetoryl:
What is Vetoryl?
Cushing’s Disease, or hyperadrenocorticism, causes a range of physical challenges for dogs - from weakened immune systems to hair loss. Dogs with Cushing's disease have too much of the hormone cortisol, which is produced in times of stress, in their bloodstream. Prescription Vetoryl’s active ingredient, Trilostane, helps regulate cortisol production in the adrenal gland and reduces disease symptoms. Vetoryl is also effective for dogs with the pituitary form of Cushing’s Disease.
Why do dogs use Vetoryl?
Managing Cushing’s Disease, also known as hypoadrenocorticism, centres on controlling the level of cortisol in your dog’s bloodstream. Trilostane, the active ingredient in prescription Vetoryl, effectively regulates cortisol in the adrenal gland, easing symptoms of Cushing's disease in dogs.
What else should I know about Vetoryl?
Helps control cortisol production. Effective in treating adrenal-dependent and pituitary-dependent forms of Cushing's disease. Reduces symptoms of the disease over time. You should see improvements in your dog’s condition in a matter of weeks. Vetoryl treats symptoms but will not cure Cushing's disease.
What problems could my dog have with Vetoryl?
Contact your veterinarian immediately if your dog stops eating or drinking or acts sick. Side effects that may indicate a serious problem include tiredness, low energy level, vomiting, diarrhoea, and loss of appetite.
How do you use Vetoryl?
Give Vetoryl as directed by your veterinarian. Do not stop giving Vetoryl or change the dose without discussing it with your veterinarian. Vetoryl is best given in the morning with food. Follow your veterinarian's directions. Wear gloves when handling Vetoryl. Pregnant women and women trying to become pregnant should handle Vetoryl with extreme care as Trilostane may cause birth defects, early pregnancy loss, and fertility damage.
What is in Vetoryl?
The drug in Vetoryl is Trilostane. Trilostane is an adrenal steroid synthesis inhibitor, meaning it blocks the body from making certain hormones.
